Why Spaniel Prints Make Great Artwork In Your Home

The beginning of the year is the perfect time to start thinking about sprucing up your house, whether you plan on renovating or simply investing in new furnishings.

If you don’t have the budget for a huge redecoration project, you can still give your home a glow up with fresh artwork.

And for dog lovers, why not consider getting Spaniel original antique prints? They are some of the most stylish, sophisticated and, let’s be honest, cutest pieces of art you are likely to find.

The Japanese Spaniel

The Japanese Spaniel, otherwise known as the Japanese Chin, is one of the most beautiful dog breeds around.

A small dog, they are characterised by a short face, large round eyes, open nostrils, and long silky fur.

The pooch, which actually originated in China, is elegant, smart, and dainty. It measures between 20 and 28cm and weighs an average of 3kg.

They are typically black and white or red and white, have a plumed tail that arches over the back and look like they are wearing culottes on their hind legs.

These all go to create this exotic appearance that is so captivating to look at, and makes for great pictures around the house.

The Clumber Spaniel

Another lesser-known dog breed is the Clumber Spaniel, which is a lot bigger than its cousin, the Japanese Spaniel.

Males typically weigh up to 38kg and can measure as tall as 50cm. The white pooch tends to have lemon or orange markings, with a medium coat length, a square nose and muzzle, and an affectionate dopey look.

These outdoorsy dogs are stocky, strong and friendly, and were a favourite with the royals.

Apparently, King George V had several Clumber Spaniels living on the Sandringham Estate, which is why paintings of this breed have historically been popular among the aristocracy.

In fact, the Duke of Newcastle had his portrait with his six dogs, three of which were Clumber Spaniels. The painting was done by Francis Wheatley in 1788, meaning they have remained popular in paintings for over 200 years.

Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are among the cutest dog breeds, thanks to their upturned muzzle, large eyes, short stature, silky fur, and long ears.

They  got their name due to their popularity among the royal family, particularly King Charles II who took to these adorable pooches.

The ‘toy’ dog typically only grows to 28cm and weighs up to 6kg. They tend to be red and white, black and tan, ruby or three colours, enabling homeowners to enjoy a variety of images of Cavalier King Charles Spaniels.

Of course, many people who like to look at artwork of this breed may be tempted to get one of their own, with the dog known for its gentleness, affection, intelligence and undemanding nature.

A calm owner who is able to take them for short walks and can offer lots of love and attention would be a perfect match for a sweet-natured Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.
